Repainting A ’74 Bonneville. Should you go with a lacquer based paint or water based?

I'd look into a base/clear epoxy system like the Dupont or PPG. I'd avoid the water based stuff as i've had bad experiences with it peeling after a couple of years. Lacquer is getting hard to come by, and it tends to shrink over time although it's easier to water sand & polish. Don

I agree, dupont and ppg make some of the best paints out there.

BASE/CLEAR..Lacquer in the door jams first.
