69 firebird in any model is great. One year styling that had such great lines that you never get tired of looking at.You could also get it with anything from a six to an eight. Any combo motor/trans was fun to drive, and for a sixties car it handled not to bad.

Well it's all a matter of opinion. We all are pontiac gear heads, in love with maybe the gto, which was actually the start of the muscle car era. i, myself am a bird lover. sure, the smokey and the bandit *** were just awesome coming out in those movies with the '77 6.6 and then the '79 to follow up the original. I, myself, have a total of 10 birds that i've gotten over several years and have been working on since first going into high school. i originally started out with a '71 firebird rustbucket and then went to another 71 with an aftermarket sunroof that had been bondoed up and the roof was sagging and decided to go to another bird. i acquired a 76 that was the first year of the big window in the back and a different grille from the '71, but it was still a bird. i got a 73 that was in halfway decent shape but was complete and in primer. from there i was able to acquire an original numbers matching 74 455-SD t-a that ran and had a completely rebuilt engine. it's pretty haha. however, that was the first year that was the grill change from the Endura rubber nose from the 70 to 73 style that had the huge grill inserts i loved, so what i did is i put my 73 nose on my 74. i suppose what i'm saying is even though there are the bandit editions and all kinds of different pontiacs, i'd have to say my favorite is definitely the 70-73 birds. their styling is just uncompareable and if you get a 73 455 *** it is actually one of the fastest factory pontiacs of all time.

There is only one answer to your question – it’s the car that gave each of us, you, the best memories.  It was fast and fun, and there was the “WOW” factor, and it was yours (or will be yours).  60 Catalina, 66 GTO, or Firebird, any year, all had that “WOW” factor, but for me the Trans AMs were best. You could turn them when you needed to and they were stable as a rock glued to the road at 120, 130, and more.

In 76 one magazine called the Trans AM the “top performance car of the year”.  I agree – that year I took one from Des Monies to Denver and averaged 100 mph.  I can still feel that car at speed – so, so sweet!   I’ll remember that trip, in vivid detail, until I die.

See what I mean about the memories.

I like the 61-64 B bodys.... Best rear end, one of the best suspensions and steering linkages, light weight for a big car... The later GTOs copied a lot of the styling hues from this era of Pontiac...

I'm with Mr. Milt,
The best Pontiac is the one with the most memories attached. For me it was an '81 Black Bandit I fell in love with late one night at a pontiac dealership after closing time. As my wife and I walked toward it sitting under the big parking lot light I thought it was the most beautiful Trans Am I had ever laid eyes on. Instead of the traditional black and gold, it was black with a silver bird, silver pinstrips, and all silver and gray interior, mirror t-tops and a four speed. The next day I learned that it was one of only a few sent out to certain dealerships around the country. We bought it and that night I drove it home in the driving rain with my wife following me 'cause I had never driven a 4 speed. The main thing I remember is being entranced with the bright blue dashboard lights while driving 35 miles an hour down the freeway wishing the windshield wipers would swish faster.

The same week we took a road trip from Houston to Dallas. "Smokey and the Bandit" was still fresh in everyones mind and everyone had CB radios. My wife's feet were propped up on the dash, and all the truckers felt like Jerry Reed blowing their air horns and warning us about the smokies up ahead. I've never seen so many drivers all of the same mind. One month later it was gone forever - a railroad conductor found the license plates beside a railroad track and traced me down to return them.  yep.
