You're dead on man! Not to get into a Ford vs GM thing, but Ford hit it right with the Mustang. Build a good car with good power and looks and it'll sell.

The recent GTO was a fine car for what it was. I don't think you can compare it to the first GTOs but it was a fine car.

GM really needs to get a modern muscle car out there. Why not a T/A or Firebird? They already have the new platform. Make a bare bones car off that platform, put in an LS7 and sell a million of them!

Why is it so plainly obvious to us, but seems to elude GM?

Well after talking with Scott Settlemire a little while back, I came to this conclusion. There are too many people against this in GM. They have the ability to do this, and they know it, but they would rather turn a larger profit on trucks and rental cars than sell a product that gear-heads want. That could in turn ruin the image of the brand, but it honestly hasn't turned me away yet.

The 4th generation Trans Ams were set for disaster. They are in your face, make great power, and look killer. To me, and many others, this is what was the selling point of the car for me. The greater majority of the car buying nation is not looking for this in a car. This means that no matter what they do, no matter how badass the car is, they will still only appeal to a small minority.

The Mustang's success, I feel, has a lot to do with the image it portrays. It's a Mustang, it's an American icon, and has become a tradition for enthusiasts, as well as you average Joe to buy one. Ford sees what they have, and they bend over back words to put out what people want. The see success in the chassis, and they capitalize on it. This is why they have a special edition car every  5 days that has something so minuscule as a badge, and they sell it.

I give kudos to Ford for they ability to market a product that should be respected. Now, I don't feel they are the best performing vehicles out there, or the best looking, but it's the total package that sells them. Create an image, give it the looks, and give it sound.

your right the mustang is definatly a unisex car convertable for women and homos and a v8 for guys price isnt to bad either but lets face it chicks love trans am-s guys do too but there just to *** expensive thats the set back why the cost because of retarted options kids buy gay civics and retarded 4 bangers because bang for the buck and aftermarket is cheap if after market got cheaper for the good stuff and like i said before  lower the *** cost the kids want to customize customize customize retard executives at gm dont get that picture they rather sell junk ass v-6 cars for way to much i mean the 3.8 ltre is garbage for the size it needs to be putting out around 275 hp but gm keeps the pushrod going dual over head cam the way to go especialy for the v8 northstar is a rightous engine anyways i dont respect ford to much because they make junk cars  the mustang is the only thing that saved any car value of ford and well i do give kudos for pontiac for having the best looking line up but there overpriced and underpowered AND AFTERMARKET PARTS ARE WAY OVER PRICED!!!!

I just blew the engine in my Camaro, believe me, I know aftermarket parts are expensive. To be completely honest with you though, if you don't feel like spending money, you shouldn't get into cars. This hobby is one of the more expensive out there, and it's the most addicting.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Northstar V8 is a phenomenal engine, but it's not the end all be all, nor is it the direction I feel GM should take. General Motors has stuck with the pushrod setup in an effort to bring the technology where it should be, and that is the forefront of engine design. Adding overhead cams increases the number of cams, has the potential to raise overall engine weight, as well as production cost. Why deal with this when GM is doing just fine with it's LS1, LS6, LS2, and LS7? Thers is also the LQ4, LQ9 and the new L92 that flows over 330 cfm out of the box!

Now you take a look at the Gen III and Gen IV V8's found in the Vette and GTO, more notably, the F-cars. The engine has proven that it is more than capable of achieving high rpm operation, excellent fuel efficiency, and solid construction. GM focused on the cylinder head design, and a more robust intake manifold, which allows the engine to breath very freely. Slide this compact designed 346ci small block into a slippery body, and you will see over 25mpg on the highway, and some see closer to 30mpg. Then roll your right foot into the throttle and unleash the 350+hp.

There is not one engine on the market today that can give you this package, or anything like it. Price, power, and efficiency.

I think you should be happy and buy an LS1 4th Generation Trans Am. I think you would be very pleased with the car you get for your hard earned money. Since they are now used they can be had for under 15,000 with low miles. Add a few minor bolt ons to the car and you will have an extremely fun car to drive. I love mine, but I have plans for a GTO eventually.

May I also suggest that you take a gander at what GM will be coming out with soon. A new 6.2 liter V8 with over 425hp, a supercharged version with over 650hp, and more attractive cars stolen from the streets of Australia too. They have already engineered great products and wasted them on the Aussies, we want them! haha

GM's future, in my eyes, looks great. They have set a path for themselves. If that turns out to be the right one, we will have to wait and see. The Camaro will make it's return soon, and I am sure Pontiac will sell something comparable with it as well.
