listen i hate honda but lets face it push rod engines need to go dual overhead cams much better  pushrods are like middleman not needed time to upgrade the bigger v8's the northstar is a prime example of technology so you might hate me for saying but you know its true new variable valve timing and direct injection blows away the good ole carb and push. and another thing pontiac needs to make this engine just for the new pontiac muscle coming out and not go for the stupid chevy crap i hate chevy the bow tie is gay and the cars well lets fce it pontiac's rides look alot better. PS PONTIAC NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A PICKUP TRUCK. man if i owned gm pontiac would own all

Well I will have to completely disagree here. The Global Motorsport Engine of the Year was not overhead cam at all. It was a pushrod engine, and it was up against countless overhead cam engines, all of which are used in some form of racing, including endurance. The vote features only what the best have to offer and the engine that won was the LS7.R. That engine is based off the LSX Gen IV technology, and speaks wonders for the potential of Pushrod engines. It powers the C6.R ALMS GT1 cars.

The need to go with overhead cam, isn't a necessity, it's a preference. There hasn't been a company that has gotten this far with pushrods, and GM is the world leader. Dodge has come out with a variable lobe in-block cam for their new Viper engine. This offers the same idea as the VTEC found in a Honda. It attains a smooth mellow car in the lower rpms with plenty of torque, and as the rpm increases the car wakes up and the horsepower jumps as the LSA becomes tighter for high end power.

The new engines that will power the Vette will still be cam-in-block, and I am not the least bit angry. There is also a rumor for a dual cam-in-block engine coming out, I wait to see how well this engine will fair.
