Still not sure how this forum thing works but, thanks Pontiacman8 for the reply. I have a 1967 firebird with the original 326 HO in it with #141 heads on it. I love the car but I recently broke a piston ring driving it a little hard. I have an extra 350 in the garage and would like a dependable driver that I can burn around town with but I don't want to get my *ss kicked by a tuned up honda if you know what I mean. I am thinking 300hp at the wheels should do it, but a little more would always be nice. The 326 was rated at 285hp stock, and it still runs, I just don't want to destroy the engine due to it being all original. So I have this extra 350 laying around, I would like to stuff that in there for something to beat on. I do have to retract my statement on the 350 ho #48 heads, it is actually 350 with #47 heads, alot worse starting point. Anyway I am looking on a low budget fix up, Cam, new parts on the heads, headers etc. what ever I need to get there. Also anybody out there can the #47 heads be milled to get a little more compression or is this not nessicary. Any way thats the story. I just noticed the guy who started the tread asked what he can do to the 350 and it seemed to go alittle off track. So again anyone with detailed combos that work for a 350 I would love to hear them. Thanks for the replys

The 47 heads are 73CC combustion chambers witch should give you a 9.5:1 C.R. witch milling the the heads should not be nessicary and proper cam, intake and exhaust should do it.

Brian, it seems there is a significant group of 350 owners that don't want to replace their motor with a 400 or 455. Most of us are looking to improve what we have not start fresh. The important thing to remember about the 350 compared to 326HO that you already have is that it is basically the same bottom end with a slightly larger bore. If you were satisfied with your 326, maybe you should consider building the 350 bottom end and using the 326 heads and intake with a mild cam such as the 067 or 068 pontiac stick which can be purchased from most of the resto parts sources. You will be up a few cubic inches and still look original. My Dad had a 326HO, 67 Firbird with the Turbine 300 2pd auto and claimed it was an amazing motor for it's size, he wishes he had never sold it (he bought it right off the car carrier, when the 67 GTO he was expecting didn't show up). If you do a search for "350" on this forum there are lots of posts about this topic, and many of us are experimenting with our combos with good results. Steve

The '68 HO 350 made respectable power, enough for a stock 390 Mustang anyway.
The '69 seems to have 2 HO engines a 325 HP and a 330 HP. The later of which had the 400 heads and the #068 cam from what I have been able to find. If you are talking about a fun car with reasonable performance the 350 is fine.
I would not go spending a lot of money on oooh ahhhs like Holley carb and Edlebrock manifolds. The factory case manifold used from '67 is a copy of the '62 Super Duty with a different bolt pattern. The Q-Jet carb is as good as any if you take the time to learn about it and dial it in.

i have a 1969 pontiac 350 that started life with a 2 barrel and single exhaust and i did a mild lunati cam, torker 2 manifold, holley 600cfm, pushrods, roller tipped rockers, and dual flowmaster exhaust off the stock manifolds and my 350 i believe is putting out a solid 320horses. My car smokes my friends 1989 5speed 5.0 stang with headers and intake any day. would headers make a difference on my car? also i hear that some of pontiacs 350 heads are missing the final stud that ram air heads come with so headers will always leak since they wont be sealing completely... i believe i have #17 heads is this true?

Yes headers will make a big difference yes some heads lack the stud or bolt holes on each end of the head I had aset of #11 heads that did not have the holes but I had a machine shop drill a tap the heads to fix this problem but not sure if the #17 heads had that problem.
