I recently purchased a 2006 GTO. I've got a K&N cold air intake kit on it and a magnaflow stainless cat-back for exhaust. I'm looking at upgrading the cams and headers and was wondering if you had any recomendations considering there aren't many performance parts available for the new gto's. I was looking at the dynatech long tube stainless heavy wall headers with cat pipes, and Comp Cams XFI XR275HR Stge 3 cams. Any ideas for heads?

There aren't any performance parts for those cars? Sounds like you've got two already....and looking at another two.
Nothing wrong with porting the stockers.... Or upgrading to a set of Trickflows or Air Flow Research heads. Any of the LS1/LS2/LS6 heads will bolt right on. Watch your compression ratio through the combustion chamber volume.

When it comes to headers, I speak from experience. I live in Florida and have gone through two sets of coated headers on two different cars because of the humidity. Snow would obviously have a similar affect. I know that the Dynatech headers are made with great quality, so I think that would be a safe option for you. They are pricey, but believe me, you will enjoy the piece of mind knowing that you have some of the best headers made for the car, and you wont have to replace them.
When the time comes to purchase heads and cam, you need to think about how much power you want to make, and who can tune your car. If you go with a large cam (cam-only), you can make more power than many heads and cam packages, but you will degrade the drivability and you may have to spin the engine high to see the best results. Obviously that wears parts down. I ran a cam-oly TRex in my car for nearly 2 years. I spun a bearing at 67,000 miles. If that doesn't sound like something you want to do, then this is where cylinder heads come in. They can play a key roll in balancing drivnabilty and performance. You can buy the best cylinder heads money can buy and a mild cam and make big power. Some take this route, even though it's very expensive. It's a balancing act really.
My suggestion is to talk with companies such as Texas Speed & Performance and Thunder Racing. They can set you down the right path once you tell them what you are looking for from the car.
