Any body out there?? I’m currently working on a 1966 Pontiac Catalina sport coupe and I’m now to the point at which some decisions need to be made. As you guys can relate I’m sure…my wife has now placed me on shoestring (non-existent in my mind) budget to finish the Cat. Here’s where you guys come into the mix. I’ve got a late casted ’64 389 with standard size 400 pistons (stock flat top), rods and a ram air IV cam from a 400. My question to you is; what heads should or shouldn’t I be using to get the best performance? I currently have two set, one is casting #543797 and the other casting is #15. I realize that neither set are really designed for high horse power, but they are both in good work condition and have been used with stock and aftermarket intake manifolds. Another thing I’m concerned about are the compression ratios associated with these combinations. Out in the sticks where I live the highest octane I can find is 92 and my intent is to make this thing a fun Sunday driver. So, in a nut shell, should I be looking for different head/intake combination? Do you know of any inexpensive horse power boosting parts that are a must have? Any advice is appreciated.
