I am in the beginning of a long process of restoring a 76 TA. To give you a bit of background of what my trouble is, I will explain what has happened.
This car has not run in years, but it has been in a garage. The motor is running quite strong considering the amount of time it hasn't been touched, but I have run into a problem all of a sudden.
I let the motor run long enough for it to get fairly warm. However, afterwards the starter would not turn whatsoever. No solenoid clicking, totally dead. Also, I had noticed that when the starter was engaged that sparks flew from the solenoid. At the time I thought that the battery was dead, but I found the next this wasn't the case.
My first assumption was that I didn't have good contacts between my battery and starter. I took off to the auto parts store, bought a remanuf. starter and new battery cables. I installed the new battery cables and new starter. Still nothing.
After installing the new starter, I noticed that the ground was arching with the key on. This didn't happen before, everything had good enough contact. The grounding cable was pretty warm, which tells me I don't have good enough of a ground...however, the accessories in the car were running.
The battery is grounded to a stud hanging out of the block. I don't know if this was the original factory location of the ground.
What would be an alternative location to place the ground?
does this sound like a faulty ignition switch or do i have a dead starter solenoid?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Did your remanufactured starter come with a new solenoid?
