I found 2 weeks ago a 79 TA on e-bay won it for 250 is was to be a parts car for my 1980 firebird that is only in need of a rear quater... any way by the time i got out of the fellas garage I had a complete outer skin of the 79 and during the 4 hour trip home visions of this once beautful car were dancing thru my head. this car has no interior and no drive train except for a 323 Posi rear end that I have not confirmed yet.

so I strip it down to bear metal im about 80% theree to know exactly what i have and what i need to do. while doing so I place a few adds around trying to find a motor and trany for the T/A it orginally came with the Olds 403 set up with a auto 350 tranny. So i was open to all options at this point Price being my main concern. whan a friend came over with his 95 caprice cop car. and he told me the carzy cheap price he picked it up at I was hooked.

This last weekend I picked up a 95 caprice 9c1 cop car for $500 need the heads rebuilt and various pieces rebuilt or replaced but the price was right for me at this point.

while towing the 9C1 home I noticed while I was being bounced all over the car simply absorbed the bumps of the road and float along with the trailer it made me ask just how much of this car can i crame under my T/a body?

so here I am.

I figure I can do the engine and tranny no issues other thna modifing mounting points a bit. I also figured I should be able to take the 4 wheel disc breaks and various cooler that are key parts of the 9C1.

Now here is the real question can I use the 4-bar posi rearend and supension and move them in inplace of the leaf-springs?

Please be aware I have a couple pure Pontiacs in the stall this one just sound like it could be a cool and it would be neat to have a muscle car get 20 mpg and still have the slam factor that is possible from the LT1. so Flame on.

I've got a 78' T/A that I'm tempted to put a 92' Caprice cop motor into with a 2004R overdrive.  Let me know how the LT1 works out because I have access to one of those too, but was concerned about how/if the oilpan would clear the front crossmember.

The coil spring rear swap is more butchery than I'd be ready to tackle, but I think your cop car has a disc braked 10 bolt rear.  You may be able to swap the drisks over to your *** rear.  Let me know if it works as I'm having a time locating the S-series truck stuff to do the 10-bolt disk swap, but a budy has a complete 95 9C1 for parts.

I'm sure the engine swap would be easy enough, just use the frame mounts and engine brackets from a Chevy powered T/A and move the trans crossmember back to line up with the 700r4 mount and have the driveshaft shortened to fit. The accessory drives can use either the complete copcar setup or the typical 70's v-belt drives. Remember the serpentine setup from the copcar uses a reverse rotation water pump so you will have to use the matching fan. Wiring and plumbing are straight forward, Painless Wiring and others offer kits to hook up these combos in just about anything.
The front brake spindles can be used to get 12" front brakes but you'll either have to use the big car rotors and switch to a 5 on 5" bolt pattern or use third gen f-body 1LE rotors to keep the 5 on 4&3/4" pattern. I'm not sure but you might be able to adapt the rear discs,(again, the bolt pattern) but be warned you will have to mess with master cylinders and proportioning valves to get the brakes balanced, and ABS is probably out of the question (better to not have it at all, than have working improperly and of questionable safety!).
As for ride, I don't think you can expect to get that kind of ride out of your *** best to upgrade what you have with polygraphite and new springs and swaybars. There's no economically feasible way to put the 4-link rear under your car and that's where the great big car ride comes from- that and the 5000lb curb weight! Have fun with this project, I'm only letting it slide since you said you have two Pure Pontiacs as well!
