i was just wondering what you guys thought would be the best sounding exhaust on my trans am i got a 1981 trans am that someone put a 71 pontiac 350 in i got a edlebrock performer intake and eldlebrock carb with hooker headers, debating if i should put flowmaster 40 series on or thrush glasspacks? i want it to rumble at low rpms and get real loud when you get on the gas any suggestions would be appreciated

From personal experience, the glasspacks will be louder all around, although the 40 series flowmasters or any of the popular knock-off's will be plenty loud too. I took the 40's off my Formula because they were too loud and droned at higher rpm (above 2000rpm). But then, I'm getting older.... and you know what they say: "if it's too loud, you're too old"!
A little help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

I agree with barneyformula, I have 3" 3 chamber Flowmasters. They sound awesome but, they are loud. I am switching to Dynomax Ultra SS. The larger the exhaust the louder. If you are running a 2 1/2" pipes, Look at the Magnaflow or Dynomax if you want a little quieter. Louder, Buy the Flowmaster.

I just finished with this same dilemia. I used stock exhaust and glasspacks to break in my newly rebuilt 400. Pretty darn load. Then installed the Hookers and 2 1/2" Flowmaster pipes and the 40s that came with the system. It was not fun to drive. I then installed a pair of the Dynomax SSs, still not my cup of tea. I returned the Hookers due to poor fit and bought the RAM Air 2 1/2" cast iron set and rebabed the pipes to fit. Now has noticeable rumble at idle and at part throttle. But when you hit the gas it lets everybody around you've got a seroius machine. If you want to attract the attention of every donut shop cruiser have at it. I will some local kid a real deal on these 40s.
