I am in the process of restoring the interior of my 77 TA.  I cannot get the console out.  Ive removed the screws, but it is sstill attached somehow in the front.  It has the ractory 8 track tape player.  As far as I know, the console has never been taken out of the car.  Can someone help with hints on what may be holding the console in anda how to remove.

thanks  Al My email is amcgough@centurytl.net.

I haven't dealt with a car that has an 8 track, but the console has a couple of screws that go up into the dash frame on either side of the console. Also when you take the screws out of the compartment, lift out the compartment and there are more screws under it that hold the console down. I'm sure you have already removed the allen head screws from the shifter plate, but just a reminder anyway.
Trying to help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

hey...dont feel bad, at least your conole is IN the car...when i bought my 1968 firbird  a month ago the console was inside the trunk upside-down !!  of course it had a new job description.........it stored the starter, altenator, distributor, coil, shifter, and tranny linkage...not to mention a whole variety of nuts bolts wires knobs and rats

anyway...good luck
