my 68 firebird has "idiot lights"  currently. i'm switching it over to mechanical gauges. my question is....where do i connect the oil pressure gauge to the engine ? right now it has the electrical one attached to the oil filter housing.

If you are using factory style electrical guages, you remove the idiot light sensors and install the guage sensors in their place. If you are using actual mechanical aftermarket guages, you can buy a "T" fitting for the oil pressure so you can install the line and still have the idiot light feature. Same goes for the temp guage, leave the idiot light sensor in place and use one of the plugged ports in the other cylinder head or in the intake manifold next to the thermostat housing to install the mechanical sensor.

these are aftermarket mechanical gauges....a trio...temp, voltage, and oil pressure.....already have the other two connected, but the oil pressure sensor on the filter housing is impossible to get  a wrench on because of the headers.   is there another place to install the oil pressure line ??

ps. barneyformula...got the edelbrock 650 installed today ........awsome !!!

I checked my spare block and the only other place I can see might be even worse. Just ahead of the oil filter adapter on the passenger side of the block behind the frost plug , right above the oil pan there is another oil gallery plug. It may be easier to get at with your headers or it might be impossible but it's the only one I see. Glad you found a carb that works for you, my experience with edelbrock carbs in the past was very good. I ran a 750 on my 350 Camaro years ago and put a 600 on a 350 4spd 80 Z28 for a freind of mine about the same time and both were excellent performers right out of the box and never needed to be jetted for our combos. But Edelbrock has a great tuning kit for these carbs if you find it needs to be leaned or richened.

ok...a new problem ...or question arises.......i finally got the oil pressure gauge installed with a lil help of a "slightly" modified channel locks...acetylene torches are great!!! ok ..when i started the engine cold...it held about 25psi at idle...when i goosed it , it would jump to about 40psi max.. then as the engine warmed up the psi dropped.....drastically!!!....at 190 degress idle- 7 psi....at 190 degrees and about 2500 - 3500 rpm it only jumped to roughly 20 psi max !!

so tell me how it is.....am i in for an over-haul??        should i use a certain weight oil to help ??

Seems pretty low when warmed up, I would try another guage just to be sure and keep an eye on it. What weight of oil are you using? Even with 10w30 I would expect a healthy motor to have at least 10-15 at idle (hot) and 30 at road speed. Could be the gallery plugs leaking off pressure into the front cover but you have to tear it down to find out. Maybe cam bearings were never replaced when engine was put together, common mistake. Best of luck, hope it isn't too bad.

the oil is 10w-30......what do ya'll think....should i switch to something else ??? i had an old chevy dump truck (77) with a 366 that held almost no pressure...maybe 20 psi at full throttle...i ran 15w / 50 in it.    the engine lasted for years (2qrts oil per 60 gallons of gas) before finally fouling plugs so often i had to replace it !!    all opinions welcome...thnx
