HI,
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS WILL BE A PROBLEM? I JUST PURCHASED A 1981 TRANS AM WITH THE STOCK 5.0 LITRE IN IT AND HAVE HAD THIS ZZ383 COMPLETE WITH ALL GM ACCESSORIES NEW ENGINE WAITING FOR A WORTHY CANDIDATE. THE CAR ALSO HAS THE FOUR SPEED HURST. IN MY WAY OF THINKING IT SHOULD GO RIGHT IN, DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING DIFFERENT?

It should bolt right in with no problems, with the possible exception of the shaker scoop. If the ZZ383 has a high rise intake it may be too tall and the shaker won't fit. If it is close to the same height, you should be ok, the only other issue is if you are using an aftermarket carb, the factory aircleaner base may not work without mods. Be sure to get a good clutch to handle the extra torque!
Trying to help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

Thanks. Is there an adapter plate available rather than modifying the shaker mount? I plan on keeping the stock motor to put back in some day maybe. I will check out the high rise heights before beginning. I purchased the one directly from GM with my engine package.

I have been told that the transmission and drive train will not handle the extra HP. I was advised to replace the T5 trans, Clutch, drive shaft, axles and the gears in the pumpkin. Let me know how you fare.
