I've got a 67 firebird with a 400. The casting number says 36 and I can't make heads or tails of it. I also have the opportunity for some #62 heads, curious what your thoughts are. If there is anyone that can inlighten me, i would appriciate it.
Update on the previous comment. I cleaned the heads up and took a better look at the casting#, it's #16 heads. I still have the option of the #62 as will as #48. I'm curious what the better option would be. Any insight?
Thanks again!
Zack
Thanks in advance.

They never had a 36 casting it could possibly be a 96 casting and if so then the #62 heads will give you a higher compression ratio.

the cylinder heads you have are of 1968 - 1969 and at that time were referred to as ram air lll and HO and standard.it depends on what year the casting is. try the following 1965 62 326 70cc,1968 62 400-428 72cc, 1969 400 72cc, 1968 16 400-428 72cc, 1969 16 400-428 72cc,1970 16 400 72cc, 1973,1974 16 455sd 111cc,1969 48 400 72cc, 1969 48 350 72cc. the combustion chamber might vary between sets by about 5cc. its best to measure the heads with the proper equiptment to be sure.
