I just bought an Edelbrock carb for a 66 GP.  I am replacing the Carter AFB.  The throttle linkage does not allow for the Dashpot to be used with the Edelbrock.  I asked the guy at the parts store where I bought it from and he said I will not need it anymore.  Is this correct?  Also the trans. kickdown switch will not fit either.  If I use the existing mounting location the throttle binds.  I have been unable to find an adapter for it.  Any ideas as to where to mount it?

The throttle probably binds because the blades are hitting the holes in the intake.  What size E-carb did you buy?  The smaller E-carbs would probably fit without an adapter.

You should use the trans kickdown switch. Ditto for the dashpot.  If it were me, I'd fix the AFB or have someone knowledgeable rebuild it.

The carb is a 600 CFM Electric choke.  It actually bolted right on to the stock location and allows full travel of the throttle without sticking.  I ended up hooking it up without the dashpot and it seems to run just fine.  The issue is with the Auto trans kickdown switch and where to mount it I can't put it in the stock location because the E-brock throttle will not come back far enough to engage the switch.  If I put it in the stock location and move it forward the throttle linkage gets stuck on it.

3 choices:

1) Make up a custom bracket for it.

2) Change to a manual single-pole momentary switch mounted under the dash or on the console.

3) Use the "2" or "L" shift positions to get the downshift.

Thanks for the suggestions I appreciate your help with this.  I was trying to keep as many original parts as I could but unfortunately mostly everything is for the GTO's or LeMans.
