Where have you been - its hot, dry and clear down here in Texas - have you checked the MPH per 1000 rpm in first, second and third gears in your 1967 HO GTO ?
Thanks

1st gear @ 1000 rpm =  3 mph
2nd                 =  6
3rd                 =  11
4th                 =  16

Thank you 67hogto

your information is just what I needed - will help me remember why my 1967 Starlight Black GTO burned rubber shifting from third to fourth at 70 mph - I would dump the clutch at 5500 rpm's and couldn't say GTO before I had to shift into second -  for the three years I street raced only two cars ever beat me off the line (real 427 Cobra and a grandmother first geared 390 Fairlane) - the 8 mph didn't hurt much back then (25-35 cents per gallon)

keep the tires pointing down and the GTO up front

70 mph in third is getting up there. Due to age and value I shift at 5000 max. It does break loose between 3rd & 4th. Back in the day I had a 66 tri power convert. Never beat by another goat.

yes I can understand the value thing and shifting at 5000 - but in 1967 my GTO cost less than 3500 drive out and had a 50,000 mile warranty - also I was young and dumb - and yes the real 427 Cobra out ran me but the Fairlane didn't - stock you could take it to around 6100 with top end of approximately 105 and the GTO would hit 6000 at the quarter mile marker - added a solid lifter crane cam (7000 rpm) and 15 inch cheater slicks which gave me a top end of approximately 125-127 mph (the speedometer was incorrect - but estimated speed by rpm's by driving next to a car going a set speed) - it was really scary - now the GTO was in the real 12's - in late 69 I made three mistakes - sold the starlight black GTO - got a ss396 - got married - I have corrected two of those - still have the same wife - sold the ss396 and have another 67 HO gold GTO - will have it rebuild in two years - (3:90 rear end with close ratio four speed) - not going for original - it will become become starlight black with parchment interior - going to put the GTO on a diet - fiberglass hood, trunk, and bumpers - might as well have some fun as a old person -

take care and keep us updated

Thats funny, I also have a 67 Chevelle, Gold/black vinal top, 283 powerglide, A/C. I have had it for 29 years, all orginal, 76,000 miles. My aunt bought it new in dec 66. I bought it in 80 for $1000 with 33,000 miles.
Question about Goat. My car runs very hot, 220/225, does not over heat but very close. The car has no fan shroud, I have been told that only A/C ho's had shroud? Also have been told that water punp should have a plate between front and back half? What can you tell me?

The non-air-conditioned HO GTO's did not have a fan shroud but it did have a 60% gloss black metal fan shield over top of fan

You should have a heavy duty radiator and an eighteen-inch seven-blade declutching fan (part number 9777014)

However, (Pontiac GTO Restoration Guide - 1964-1970) indicates that you can use the fiberglass shroud which was utilized from 1964-1967 (part number 9774621) with an inside diameter of  19 1/2-inch, and was used either for the optional trailer package or for field-installed ac

Yes Pontiac water pumps have a divider plate between the front and back part

Check your thermostat

Spin the fan the thermal control fan clutch should not let it spin freely

Check timing

Check radiator pressure cap

Good luck
