Bought a 79 firebird with a pontiac 400. The PO took it apart. Rebuilt the motor, and now (as crazy as it sounds) don't know how to install the valve covers. They can go on either side. The Oil baffles is what we are concerned about. If someone could advise how to install these valve covers, it would be apreciated.

The usual arrangement for the valve covers....at least on a late second gen firebird/ trans am is on the passenger side, you have the valve cover with the smaller hole, and a metal tube that fits into a rubber grommet in that hole, and goes up to a breather/filter clipped to the side of the air cleaner assembly. The drivers side usually has just an oil cap on it. I have this exact arrangement on my completely stock 77 T/A and i know it to be original. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I may have not been clear on the question, sorry. The issue isn't which valve cover on which side............the problem is that we don't know which is the front, back, left, or right side of the valve cover. You can take one valve cover off and flip it end for end. This will make a difference on the oil baffles on the underside of the valve cover.
I hope my question is more clear now, sorry about that.
