The Edelbrock 3711 fits under the hood and shaker position is as stock on the Olds 403. What are the options when using the 7111 or other intakes which have a higher carb height than the stocker ?
Is there a dropped base for use on the 403 with its' offset ?

I am having the same exact issue with my olds 403.  I want to run the performer RPM intake, but can't find a drop base for it.  Does anyone know of an Edelbrock Oldsmobile Drop Base kit?

MY 79TA had a 301. I now have a 400 in it.What I did was to cut the air cleaner with a jig saw and weld in a spacer to lower it down around the carb. That my be the hard way. I did read in one of my old HPP Mags. about a company that make a kit to fab up one to fit what ever intack you have. Ck back issiues or ck the web. Pink Paul.

I have a 79 400 also and installed a Elde RPM intake What I found is save aside the Carb base create a new flat plate that fits the same diameter as the base and reuse the band clamp and transfer the demensions for the carb hole off the base.

The best solution is to cut the necessary amount out of the of the air cleaner housing. Mark it using masking tape all the way around and cut an even amount all the way around. If you cannot weld, then take it to a welder and have it mig welded back together. I have done this many times.

On my own car I have a Pontiac with a Victor manifold. The top of the carb is actually above the hood. I had to add another ring inside of the air cleaner to drop it further to do accomplish this. There is only 1" between the top of the carb to the inside of the shaker. Good enough for use on the street, but not enough flow to feed 800hp at the track. By cleaning the welds, a little filler and paint, the shaker looks stock even with the hood open.
