I just bought a 79 Trans AM. Theres an after marker intake and hollycarb. The hood doesn't shut all the way, it's rusting on the shaker. Any suggestions on the intake and carborator setup to fix this problem. Would be apprecaited. Thank you.

What intake do you have? What engine do you have? Are there any other mods to the engine that requires the hi-rise and Holley? Or did some Chevy Fan figure that since their stock manifolds are weak, so too must Pontiacs? If there are no good reasons for having the aftermarket stuff, I would locate and reinstall the original manifold and carb, it will probably work better anyway.

I had the same problem with my 79'. I put the original 403 on a engine stand and put in a 455 out of a rusted out 74 Trans Am.It ran so so but not enough power for me.After shelveing the lathargic 4X heads, stock intake, and quadra jet carb I installed KRE aluminum heads, a performer RPM intake, and a Edelbrock 750 cfm carb. I then had clearance problems with the shaker. I searched the web and located blockersperformance.com . I gave them a call and they had a kit for my application. it even comes with a insert for the shaker to install a k&n aircleaner, you cut out the shakers back baffles and have a tru functional shaker. The car runs great and my shaker shakes again. Good luck and have fun....
