Hi! Three months ago I was in my apartment when a local storm came by. I heard a chrash sound outside, and walked to the window and looked out, and guess what i saw... A 100 year old oak had just falled over my ventura and turned over six years of restoration into junk. The roof were down in the seats and the whole body was like a banana. It wasn´t my lucky day.
Anyway. A month ago I bought a 1966 bonneville with new paint and rest of the car unrestored. Now for my question. I need to replace the exhaust system and I want to hear a great sound from it. Does anyone have a "recipe"? Pipe diameter, mufflers, headers etc. Thank you for your answer

Bummer! I hope insurance covered it. As for exhaust, being a Bonneville (not exactly a drag car!) I would stick with the stock manifolds and have a muffler shop bend a 2 1/4" dual system for it and use some good turbo mufflers (Dynomax etc.) and an "H" or "X" crossover pipe. That way you'll get a nice rumble without too much noise when cruising, especially since a Bonne is such a great cruiser to begin with! Steve

Hi guys. Thank you for answering. Yes the insurance covered it and I could buy the bonneville. It has the 389 cui with a carter 4 barrel. I plan to put on an edelbrock performer intake with a Holley street avenger 570 cfm. Even a HEI distributor. Parts that´s left from the ventura.
Steve. Where on the exhaust system is the "X" or "H" pipe supposed to be placed?

The X or H crossover is usually placed just behind the trans, I'm not familiar with the older Bonne's but I believe they have an X frame, so you may be best with just true duals. You won't give up much in the way of power and the sound will still be great compared to a single system. Steve

I recomend a good set of headers with 2-1/2 in pipe and a set of 40 series flow master mufflers this will boost power and give you a deep rumbling sound.
