My recently purchased 1966 GTO has no paint letter code but only the number "1". I have done some research and understand that there where a few special colors. I have scraped through the layers of paint in a few places and found first a red primer then a greyish turquoise then my current red top layer. Does anyone know what the "1" paint colors were? Article in HPP number crunching 66gto according to Jim Mattison (HPS)#1 was a standard GM color not in Pontiac inventory.  

Recently ran into same thing but data tag shows 888 and PHS shows special order paint "1" color unknown! Only reference found is at bottom of paint code chart at http://ultimategto.com/66colors.htm tells about the "special 8 paints that were available. Color on the one i found looks alot like iris mist from 65.  

Thanks for the replies. I suspect my original color might have been Fathom Turquoise, but was wondering what other colors would be considered "correct" as far as my data plate goes.
