We're coming down the home stretch on a year long exterior restoration of my 78 Formula. I've had this car since new (Jan 78)   and will probably never part with it. It was two-tone Silver (Platinum) and Black w/ large FORMULA double-lettering on the lower section of each door. The lower car color was Black and the FORMULA lettering was Silver. There were numerous red/ charcoal striping decals that surrounded the car where the Silver and Black met. The tail light area and upper section of the rear bumper were also blacked out. Hopefully, I've described the car enough that you know what I'm talking about. I'm restoring the car back to its original color scheme, but I can't remember if the hood scoops and the rear tail light frames were painted gloss black or semi-gloss black. My paint guy needs to know. I think they were gloss black but not 100 percent sure. Also, is there any information on exactly how high on the door the black went. Are there coordinates of any kind available to know where the "two-tone line" surrounds the car. The car is currently all in primer and some valuable digital pictures were lost   when I had a computer hard drive crash. I would appreciate some help. Thanks   .  

Worse case, look for a '78 sales brochure on ebay. It would probably show some nice pics to try and gauge by.  

Hey Dave,I also own a 1978 formula that I bought new in Feb. of that year. I have a friend of the family restoring it. That stripe is 5 inches up from the bottom of the door. The tail lights were simi-gloss like the bottom stripe. The scoops and that small blacked out area right below the tail lights were also flat black, which I haded. One other thing people may not realize, atleast on mine, was that the moulding around the windshield and back glass were also flat black which did not last long at all....Floyd  

Thanks Floyd. I actually bought my car new from the dealer and my window moldings were silver colored. When you measured 5 inches up was that to the top, middle or bottom of the stripe?  What color is your Formula?
