Just joined. Looking for advice on how to remove the paint from my 71 GTO. I have restored the car mechanically and want to start on the body. I am looking to save some $$$ by removing the paint myself. Although I can hold my own mechanically I am a complete novice at bodywork. Any suggestions on what I need to do to strip the car would be helpful. Thanks

It depends on how much or how little paint is on the body. An original paint car or one with a single repaint should come off easily using a DA sander of 180 grit. If the paint appears to be thick, use a product called Aircraft Stripper. You'll need gloves, a scraper and a mask as the stuff stinks. Use it in a well ventilated area. You may have to repeat depending on how thick the paint job is. Make sure you prime the bare metal areas when you are done.
