hey guys, i'm putting my 455 back into my 79 firebird and wanted to get rid of the air conditioning housing.  i don't need it and the engine never had the compressor anyway.  what i want to find out is if there is a replacement aftermarket housing that is offered so the blower motor still functions.  if not i can fabricate one to look good just would hate to deal with the annoyance of making it.

HPP ran an article on this subject a few years back and basically it said to find a donor car to switch everything over, however it required sheetmetal surgery, because the A/C equipped cars have a huge hole in the firewall. You have to fabricate, weld in and bodywork the patch, then make a template from the donor, trace it over the patch and cut out the new hole. Then you have to replace all the controls and some duct work as well as the kick panel vents so you have a properly operating non-A/C system. As far as I know there is no aftermarket kit to remove the A/C.

American Graffiti has an AC delete kit for $40, but you need to be patient, as I didn't get mine for 3 months
