My Trans Am needs new seats. I'll settle for new frames and just have them upholstered, but I would prefer the whole thing. I would also prefer staying away from junkyards, thinking that any seats found would be in about the same condition as the ones I'm replacing. My problem is I can't seem to find any place that offers stock/reproduction seats. I don't want (and really can't validate paying for) racing seats, but can't seem to find anything else. Any help? By the way, I need black ones.

Hey bud, im in the same boat you are. Im looking for new seats for my 1989 firebird, and cannot find anything for my year. I found some seats for sale for a 1981 firebird brand new, I don't know if they will fit your vehicle though. I am trying to find out if they would fit inside my vehicle but who knows! Good luck hunting....If I find something for your car i'll let you know!

Your best bet is getting them re-upholstered for now. A 81 is the last of the 2nd Gen.Firebirds while the 82 is the first of the 3rd gens. the interior parts don't swap and although a lot of companies handle 70-81 stuff there is not much out there for 3rd gen yet.I have a 79 and i'm helping my son with a 84 right now. the only thing out of all the interior parts i have for the 79 that worked in the 84 was the formula steering wheel. Good luck and they might start making them for you in a couple years if the demand is there.

4th gen seats bolt right in 3rd gen birds and t/a's.i found a wrecked 99 t/a with beautiful black leather power seats and split rears they bolted right in

Hi,
Saw these for a '92 on e-Bay... '78-'81 T/A seats leave a lot to be desired and don't recline. Plus the frames were pretty minimal and haven't gotten better with age! (I have them in my '79 Formula) I'm guessing they won't fit without some modifications to the tracks or your floor. Anyhow, see what you think & good luck!
