Hi everyone! I was wondering does anyone know of a website or forum that gives you information on turbo charging a pontiac v8? I know the 301 was turbocharged. I a thinking on turbocharging a 400 pontiac someday and I am trying to gather information. I read the article in hotrod about the guy who turbocharged a 455. The article gave a website turbopontiacs.com but when I go to the website it is shut down and hs nothing about pontiac or any car for that matter. Anyone have any advice? Thanks for the help.

Craig, interesting site, I always wondered how one of your installations looked. Man that is tight! I think I'll stick to natural aspiration! Steve
A little help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

Steve,
When I developed TurboForce in the late 1970s, it had to fit on stock off-the-showroom Birds with all options. Most "experts" said it could not be done. They were wrong.
I sold about 100 T-F kits. Dennis Mecham sold a few T-F Machos too. Those were the days.
Now I have one to drive around. Can you say BLAST!
However, I agree with you. Normally aspirated is much easier. A turbocharged street Firebird is not for the weak of heart or light of wallet.

Hey we just joined this site and saw your question. Yes it can be done I have a turbo charged 1979 Trans am Pontiac that has been turbo charged. It is a California Special Edition T/A Outlaw car. They only made 6 of them and I happen to find one of them. It is a 455 turbo charged. It is all stock!!!

Yes, all Outlaw cars were equipped with H-O TurboForce and were aftermarket upgraded to 455. Unforunately, the guy who was producing them (I forget his name), crashed his private plane into the side of a mountain and that ended that.

That's why they called them "Macho TA's".

In 1979 they made 6 T/A Outlaws which are not the same as the Macho Trans Ams. The dealership in Palm Springs California made 6 of these and they called them the Outlaw and that is why the car is called California T/A Outlaw Special Edition. They were going to make 50 of them and the builder passed away and then they shut down the project! We found the car sitting on blocks for 22 years and it has 16,000 original miles on it. It has a 455 and a HO Turbo charged unit on it.
