1976 TA subframe connectors

I have a 76 TA and was considering subframe connectors. I have heard that the Alstons are good, and also that welding is the way to go. I have also heard that welding requires solid body bushings. Will bolting them in vs. welding be a big difference? Has anyone had experience with subframe connectors that can steer me the right way?

Sub-frame connectors will significantly improve the body rigidity of any unibody-type vehicle and this translates into better handling. And because the entire suspension is now able to dampen road irregularities, ride quality should noticeably increase too.
Depending upon your needs, bolt-in connectors are typically easier to install and can be removed in the future, but they are less effective than weld-in connectors, which are essentially permanent. If you’re simply looking to improve your Firebird’s suspension, bolt-in may be good enough. If you’re looking to maximize it, then weld-in is the only way.
I installed a set or bolt-in connectors on my ’76 Trans Am several years ago. At the time choices were limited and I opted for those from Competition Engineering. They fit well and still do their job quite well. There are more options available today, however. You don’t need solid body bushings when installing sub-frame connectors. But you’ll likely need new bushings if yours hadn’t ever been replaced. Aluminum solid units are one option, but I’ve had urethane body bushings on mine for years without any issues whatsoever. You’ll likely be surprised at the effects new body bushings, whether rubber, urethane, or solid, will have on your Firebird!

I had a full vehicle polyurethane bushing kit from competition engineering a couple of years ago. I noticed a very big difference and I love them. I was just thinking about going with some subframe connectors too and I was just wondering if bolt in or weld in was the way to go. The only problem i would have with welding them is i have heard that if you go weld in you have to go solid body bushings or the welds will break? I was considering possibly going bolt in and then maybe weld them later. Thanks for the info!

So I am looking at the Jegster SFC's for 1976-1980 f-bodies, anyone have experience with these? I think I will go bolt in and then have them welded after they are bolted in. I have Energy Suspension bushings, will these allow too much flex and crack the welds or will they be good? they are a lot stiffer than the old worn out rubber bushings. Any info about the jegster sfcs would be appreciated, thanks.
