Have the idiots at gm really come to this point - lack of everything (brains, design, money, or even listing to the buying public) - Everyone associated with Pontiac/gm are at fault - the products cost too much - look average - no wow - We will have to keep the Indian going with the old hot rods - long live the muscle cars

The idiots in the U.S. government are bailing them out!!!And they are keeping Buick? Of course Pontiac only has itself to blame with the G-Whiz series of cars. Imagine cutting out a massive seller like the Grand am and calling it a G6 ? Stupidity!!! A 4door hot rod called a G8? Stupidity Twice!!! No retro Bird or Goat? Stupidity three times your out!!!

Hmmm....Bob Putz, Bob Putz, and Bob Putz!! His statement a few years back about how Pontiac was going to compete directly with BMW (B*tch Mans Wheels). DUH, what a move. So if that was the case then what was Caddy doing, competing with both?

This is so sad to see. I believe GM had plans to end Pontiac years ago. Let's review shall we? Remember in the late 90's when GM showed us the orange GTO concept? At that time, GM already knew that the f-body was doomed because sales were lagging, so they changed their focus to a musclecar with a solid and reputable history, the GTO. Then GM must have heard that Ford was working on a retro-styled mustang. With no Camaro to compete with the mustang, the concept GTO suddenly changed to the concept Camaro(the resemblence is more than noticeable). But GM still wanted a GTO, so they strike a deal with Holden to bring their Monaro from down under and put a Pontiac badge on it and that was it. Again, sales were poor. Seeing Pontiac's road rapidly coming to a dead end, GM decides to unfamiliarize Pontiac to the American public by changing all of the brand's recognizable names. So they change the Grand Am to a G6, change the Sunfire to a G5, morph the Grand Prix and Bonneville into the G8, import a G3 from Canada, and the Firebird and GTO are now memories. My family has been a Pontiac family since I was born. The day I was born my dad rushed my mom to the hospital in a 1980 Solar Gold Turbo Trans Am. Since then we've owned 11 Pontiacs, from Sunfires(my first car) to Grand Prixs(my mom had 3) and a Bonneville(mom's), Grand Am(sister's), and of course Firebirds(1 Formula,3 Trans Ams(dad's of course)). It's very sad to see indeed.

Guys.... I feel it! I had money on Buick being the next GM "brand" to follow my beloved Rocket ships into oblivion! I do agree- "G6" is not a name. Every time someone says G6 I want to yell "Bingo"! The bright side (or, at least this is what I kept telling myself when Olds died) is we won't see any more boring, lackluster product undeserving of the Pontiac name!

If you care about Pontiac see my response in "My compliant letter to Pontiac!". Think about it and if you agree then follow the suggestion. If not then do nothing. I will also post this response in other threads where it seems to fit. So please dont mind a few reposts on this issue. I think it is important enought to repeat in a few places.

Nobody wanted to see the F-body go(except for maybe mustang owners), that's not what I was trying to say. The sales of both the Firebird and Camaro combined couldn't keep up with the sales of the cheaper, more "ergonomic" mustang- even though the stangs performance lacked what the F-body's had. GM wasn't making a substantial profit from their musclecars; look up production numbers from '93 on and you'll see that even with stellar performance and aggressive styling, the sales just weren't there. So in the late 90s, GM decided to close the factory where the F-body was made in St. Therese, Canada. GM was to make no more Firebirds or Camaros after 2002. Another thing too, this new Camaro from Chevrolet should have been 'our' new Pontiac GTO.
