We are in the process of prepping a 1976 Trans Am for Paint its original color is Firethorn Red... does anyone have any suggestions on what paint to use? and how many coats of clear to use? and if we should use a single stage I have been getting prices from $189.00 per gallon all the way up to $543.00 per gallon on the paint,  Which Brand will give me the the most acurate color? I'm not sure at this point A friend says PPG and i have another guy telling me Sherwin Williams makes a great automotive line as well... We want a good quality paint we have'nt stripped this car down to the bone to settle for crappy paint quality.. Can anyone send me in the right direction? All we have here for Paint distributors is English Color, Gladwyn, and Sherwinn Williams Auto....

Multiple vendors to choose from Everyone in the forum is helpful and will spend time to supply positive input
Guess I am lucky I live 6 miles from House of Kolor -Picayune,Miss
Have had good luck with many paints-I am a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector
A lot of factors play into a long lasting paint job-Product selection,surface prep,ambient conditions,applicator competency,etc.
Most body shops will rent you their spray booth for a decent price 150-250 for a time after hours. It is worth it-Price a good paint job.Itook 6 months off and worked in a body shop to gain some insight-very enlightening.
