Best Pontiac of all time!

A list of great Pontiac's could and would be very long. I would almost not even think of picking the "Smokey and the Bandit" 77 *** and I own a 79 and 86 *** so i feel very impartial to the T/A line. But if you look at what the Smokey and the Bandit 77T/A did for Pontiac sales/marketing/exposure you can not overlook that car. The mid 2nd geration F-bodied cars are not great cars. I have also owned a camaro/z28 or two in my life time, so feel i know the f-body cars. My 79, 400, 4sdp is very simple, trouble free, reliable car. By the time the Smokey and the Bandit movie came out some time in 1978, I am sure that it had an effect on Pontiac selling some 119,000 Firebirds. As a kid i thought that the 1969 Grand Prix was the greatest car built. And i have had several mid 80's Grand Prix's and still want to have one. And how can you not think of some of the early 1960 cars like a '62 Catalina. So sorry to all the great GTO's out there. BUT THE GREATEST PONTIAC "OVERALL" HAS TO GO TO THE 77 T/A SE THAT THE BANDIT DROVE!

I would have to say the 64 GTO put muscle cars on the map, everybody came after the GTO even the Mustangs were after the first true muscle car the 64 GTO.

My first Pontiac was a 1970 Pontiac Gran-Prix , Model SJ with the 428 Cu.In. V-8 I had lusted for that car since I was in High School. I bought one when I left college in 1978 used but not abused. I thought that was the best Pontiac until I bought my 1994 Pontiac Formula Firehawk in 2001. Considering that the car is now 13 years old it still gives me that little "thrill" that I get from more costly sports cars. I love that car with the "T"-tops, and the 6.3Ltr. LT-4 Engine Option.

I think the 64 GTO's were the or I should say any early GTO were the best Pontiac, But then again I like all Pontiacs, that being said, what Pontiac was doing in the early 60s was incredible. They were in Nascar with the Catalinas and drag racing the GTO. The early Pontiacs were what hot rodding is about. My opinion is that Pontiacs of the 60s were in to high performance long before Chevies or Ford

1960's HO GTO. 1970's , 73 455 trans am. 1980's 1989 3.8 PAS TURBO TA (revamped gnx motor). king of the hill 1999 trans am 5.7 manual. 12.9 et says it all highest top speed 168 mph. East bound and down bandit style Trans ams where 5 seconds slower in the 1/4. I want a 1979 silver 10th ann Trans built to ram air 4 power. Put a 428 pontiac in a 76 Trans 25 years ago. 365 hp beats 200.ENJOY

The year was 63 and neighbor across the street bought a new dark blue GranPrix. That started my appreication of Pontiacs. It was a 4 speed car with light blue interior. What a beauty, big chome instructment bezels that tilted toward the driver, way cool and still a great car. The front end of that car with the up and down head lights and those great turn signal lights in the grills has been used in several Pontiac since. That car taught several of us and all of grand kids to drive a stick.

OK. Here is my opinion...."ALL" Pontiacs from the Muscle Car Era, 1960-1974, were awesome Cars in their own respect. Some of the later era Cars are pretty awesome as well, i.e. 1975-1981 T/A's, Grand Ams, etc. Simply put, Pontiacs are awesome rides. Can you tell I am a Pontiac fanatic? If I had to choose the most awesome Pontiac ever, I would have to pick the 1965 GTO Post, 389 with 3X2's and a 4-Speed, hands down the best looking Car ever made, great power to weight ratio, etc. The fastest, certainly not. That would go to the factory Drag Cars of the early to mid 60's with the 421 SD. My own personal Cars, to start, my very first Car, a '69 RAM AIR III GTO, dark blue interior/exterior, spotless, bought from the original owner...an old man, for $700.00! Kind of rare too, it had Buckets with Console delete, Column shift, TH 400, 3:23 Rear, and as stock as the day it rolled out of Detroit, with the exception of the L-60's on the Rear. The Car would run 12.50's-12.60's all day long and would go in excess of 160 MPH on a long stretch. I was 16 years old and had NO idea what I had. I just know one thing, it outran EVERYTHING on the Road from Big and Small Block Chevy's, All the Fords and even a '70 Hemi 'Cuda, a little FYI, the '74 SD 455 TA's didn't stand a chance, I could beat them by 2-3 Car lengths. That Car was flat out amazing. You could not hold it from a 45-50 MPH punch, it would literally jump into the other lane! I also owned a Black and Gold 1978 TA with the Pontiac 400, W72 package and a 1980 Black and Gold Turbo TA. Both of these Cars were beautiful, ran well and handled extremely well. At 45, and after being away from the Hot Rodding scene for many years, I have a new Toy. It is a Cherry '72 Ventura II (couldn't bring myself to molest a Bird or Goat)with a '71 .030 over 455, Forged Flat Tops, Ultradyne Solid Roller, TH 400, '70 #13 Heads, that I Ported and Polished myself, so forth and so on, that is making about 550 HP and about the same in Torque............it hauls ass and is 100% Street legal and all steel. It runs in the 10.50's, with a Torker Intake and a '76 800 CFM Quadrajet. Leaves the 'other' guys scratching their heads when the Hoods come up. May the CHIEF live forever!

1965 GTO... by far the best of the early GTO's. A true automotive icon.

Well, I have a 1977 Firebird so you know I am biased, nice to see so many of you feel the same and can't wait for Spring as I got this car late summer and have yet to put it on the road, but she turned over fine after some brutal weather.
