i finally have the 350 running great the 600 holley never worked properly snce new so i bought a 750 edelbrock and the difference in performance was like nite and day you couldnt wipe the smile off my face if you tried.my questions are can i use a steering box, disk brake setup and 5sp manual trans.from a 80's through 90's gm vehicle and if i can what would work. the new hp pontiac has a 55 chieftain with a manual out of a80's firebird and thought i heard some one say a s10 disk brake and spindle set up would work and also aside from steering hoses a96 firebird steering box would bolt up in my 69 tempest any one know anything about this interchange stuff.thanks in advance

Just curious- I have a 69 Custom S 350 and was wondering about your other upgrades. I have an edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm) and I know its jetted lean. I went to a car show this past weekend and the Edelbrock technician at the show actually gave me new secondary jets and rod springs to set it up properly for my upgrades. I haven't put them in yet but maybe next week. I was told that a 750 carb was too much for a 350 motor. Did your new 750 need to be re-jetted in any way to perform properly for your 350?
Thanks

hey lou the 750 edelbrock works great right out of the box.here is what the engine is. its 69 350ci bored 30 over a comp cam xe268-10 no 62 heads that were ported a edelbrock duel plane pontiac performer intake and presently stock manifolds with 2 1/2 inch exhaust a 350 turbo auto. 2300 stall converter and 390 gears i was thinkin there was all kinds of things were screwed up when the new 600 holley was on the engine over a year later i took my cousin advice and changed the carb and went alittle bigger in cfm one of the ways i can put it now, there is a tiger under the hood. i am very pleased

Man, that sounds sweet. I have 47s on mine right now with 62s on the floor in the garage ready for a rebuild and an install. I also have a 2.55 rear that needs to go. I think I want a 3.32 instead. Did you have any trouble getting those 62 big valves to clear in the 350? How about rockers, did you go stock? I was also going to add a nice B&M shift kit too. Not too aggressive because I have column shift and a bench seat (just like in High School haha). I bought all of my parts almost 6 months ago and now I am working them in. New brakes, springs, shocks and PST complete front end kit with Polygraphite and new rear lower boxed control arms. I also located some nice factory oversized sway bars for front and rear. I’m getting itchy. My right foot occasionally stomps the ground for no reason in anticipation of a good WOT. This is actually my first muscle car project. I rebuilt an MG Midget last year and it handles like its on rails. Not too bad for 72 cubes, but its no Pontiac by a very long shot.

The 750cfm carb will work fine, I've personally used an Edelbrock 750 on a 350 SBC with less cam than you guys are talking about and it worked fine. However you may be giving away a little throttle response and mileage compared to a 600cfm. The 750 works so well because of the air valve secondary design that limits the total airflow to just what the engine needs, so if it can only pull 600 or 700cfm, that's all the 750 will open to. Of course with a 600, if you need 650 then your hp and max rpm will be limited. If the 750 works to your satisfaction, stick with it. Steve

CustomS, The only way you will have a valve to bore clearance problem is if you use a very high lift cam. Billy

Hey Billy,
Thanks for the input. I may try the 750 CFM and some higher lift rollers in the 47s. My only concern is the clearance for my stock covers and getting spacers will interfere with the rear AC bracket. That bracket leaves me no room to work with in getting taller covers and I know for certain that I am not going to remove my working AC just yet. 47s are a curse.

lou i have a69 custom s and pulled the body off the frame sand blasted and wire brushed it and put everything new on it the engine was disassembled and sent to the machine shop along with the no 62 heads i had laying in the basement its the first engine i ever put together it all seems to be working good for now i went with 390 gears and wish i didnt 336 or 355 might have been better for every day street use but im stuck with them for now although mashing it to the floor and the tires chirping from first into second is pretty coolthe machine shop installed the recomended springs and locks on the heads for the cam i used as for throttle response with the 750 carb it is very responsive and when the power band kicks in at 2000 rpm it almost gets scary when your not used to that little bit of power nice talkin to you and let me know how you make out show me pics if you have any i have some but i have to redo them. what i posted doesnt look good
