I have a 78 El Camino with a 75 Pontiac firebird motor i check with the vin number and i guess its a 350 5.7 liter rated at 175hp. i figured since im rebuilding the motor i might as well up grade the cam and lifters, intake manifol, and some long tube headers but i dont know which one to start with. i plan on using all edelbrock parts for the rebuild and they offer some nice cam and lifter kits with springs. is that a step in the right direction or should i go another route. My vision is to have a daily driver with access to some decent horse power when i want it. and the occasional trip to the local speed way. im not much of a gear head and have just a slight idea on what i am doing. i just have never rebuilt a motor which is why im doing this project. any info whould really help.

The casting numbers on the heads are located on the center exhaust ports and the casting code for the block is located right below the passenger side head on the front of the block.
