Any advice on opening up the shaker hood on a 1979 TA 6.6 would be greatly appreciated. I seem to recall that there was a company that had a kit for this....

Try blockerperformance.com or pontiactransamshakers.homestead.com

Just curious, have you had any luck with this?

I was about to post a similar question, and then saw yours.  I just recently started driving my old high school car, a 79 TA.  Been in my Dad's barn for the last 18 years. It just has the 301, but for now thought about adding one of these shaker conversion kits, and wondered if they worked, or if it was worth doing?

Thanks!

I had no choice and if I wanted a shaker I had to use the Blockers kit.I originally had a 403 car. When I put in the 455 pontiac and the Performer RPM intake the shaker would not fit and I had to glue it to the hood. This kit has been great for me as I now have a shaker that "Shakes" and is functional too.Seems to work real well for me as I am only getting fresh outside air through the shaker opening and K&N filter. In a 301 car that is all original I wouldn't mess with it.I doubt it would make any differance. The blockers are designed for clearance issues mainly for Peaple that have modified engines running Performer RPM,Torker, or other higher rise intakes.

Thanks!  I struggle if I should keep it stock, or not.  Won't be doing anything right now, except replacing the window door trim, which has dry-rotted, and a few other minor things.  I don't have the money to do anything major, but always wished it had more horses.  The 301 is still fun, but it won't spin the tires like I would like!

If it's in good shape I'd keep it stock, original 79 cars are getting hard to find.I didn't even know they put 301's in trans ams in 79.Thought all ta's had 403's for automatic cars and 400's for the stick cars. Check the web for info they claim there are 301's out there making some power.
