I had a Pontiac 400 motor built up last summer at a local shop, and the oil baffle will not fit onto the main bearing caps. I looked closer, and only two of the bearings have the mounting bosses for the baffle. Of course they are in the exact wrong position. So my question is can I just remove all 4 of the main bearing caps and switch them around so they fit with the baffle? Iam semi-mechanically inclined, but engine building is new to me and I want this sucker running soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Swapping main bearing cap will mean that you will need too have the block aline honed because they have to go back in the same exact place they came from.
Was the block aline honed when they rebuilt it.

If I remember correctly, the two main caps should be #2 and #4 that have the bolt holes.
