I have a chrome balancer with full engraved timing marks to install and wondered what method to use when setting timing. Do you use the fixed "0" mark on the timing cover and read the actual timing on the balancer or how is it done ?
Thanks
Im sorry you must have misunderlistened !

It depends on what style of timing light you have. If you have a fixed advance light (no dial back feature), you will read the fixed zero on the timing cover and whatever engraved mark it lines up with on the balancer when the light flashes. With a dial back advance light, you can use it just like a fixed light by setting the dial at zero or you can ignore the engraved marks on the balancer and dial the light until both the zero on the cover and the zero on the balancer line up, then read the dial or display. Be sure to use a piston stop or dial indicator (if the heads are off) to determine if the balancer "zero" is accurate, don't be surprised if it isn't! Steve
A little help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!
