Drag racer? It depends on what kind of ET's you want to run. I've seen people running cars as slow as 20 seconds in the 1/4 mile bracket classes, but if you want to spend loads of cash, you could give John Force a run for his money (just kidding of course)! You need to set a realistic goal for your car, often guys will say they want a car to run 11 second 1/4's and then tell you they want to be able to drive it 400 miles one way to the Woodward Dreamcruise with a family of 4 and A/C on. You can only have it both ways with large amounts of cash. The rest of us need to choose a path and make a plan and stick to it. Steve
Trying to help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

Do you know how much the car weighs. What is the farthest distance the car will be driven.

What you have now will probably run High 14's low 15's depending on your tranny and rear gears. It costs alot of money and work to get into the 12's and 11's or 10's are really expensive. If you also want to drive it as a daily driver the faster you get it the less streetable it will be. Your best bet is to take it to the track the way it is and try it out. look around the pits and talk to the other racers most will be glad to help you out.Get a copy of the rule book ,NHRA or IHRA depending who's sactioning your local track and get your car equipt with the basic safety items first,ie overflow bottle, two throttle return springs, ect. the book will tell you what you need. Make sure you have no leaks or drips coming off the car.Buy a quality helmet,SNELL rated '05 or better, you put a ten dollar head in a ten dollar helmet.Remember also, certain drag items require more safety items$$$ ie,slicks or traction bars require a driveshaft safety loop.Start out slow and work up the car as you can afford it. I have been in the 10's with a previous car and it was one thrilling and scary ride, however it was not a car I could cruise with and I prefer the car I have now that runs 12.8s and I can drive it to the track. When you do want to beef it up there are lots of people on this forum who can even get your 350 hopping.

I would seriously think about upgrading the suspension before you upgrade the drivetrain. I ran my 68 FB with the same engine for about 6 years and picked up about 1 1/2 seconds just playing with the suspension. Then I was able to put more power to it and picked up a lot more. Of course, my 1st wife said I wasnt' driving it on the street (to save my dl and $). That was one of the smartest things she said to me until she said she wanted a divorce. Then that was the smartest thing.
