Ya I was even thinking about a crows foot....they sort of stick out a bit so that may even give me some additional sideways clearance.

You still may have to unbolt the pipe from the manifold because you will need room to get a torque wrench in there to torque down the head to proper specs.

Yes I did do that, and I also placed a floor jusck under the exhaust pipe and jacked it up just enough to move it out of my way. I am able to get at the bolt now a lot easier with a crows foot, however the crows foot is almost o square for the hex bolt and it is tending to slip off. I do not want to risk rounding the corners, so I only tried the one time. I wonder if a flare nut, crows foot would work better? I am heading out to see what I can find, and will le tya know.

Like Pontiacman8 said, get that pipe and manifold out of the way. You can't accurately torque the headbolt with a crowsfoot, so save yourself the headaches and do it right from the start. Steve
A little help... 'cause we don't all have to learn the hard way!

Okay,okay...I don't know why I was being so dense but I get it now. Unbolt the exhaust header at the exhaust pipe and pull it out of the way.....duuuh!

You have to use a site like photobucket to load pics on the post or you could post some pics of your ride in the readers ride section and post those pics there as well.

You have a torque sequence-also torque in increments ie 1/3-2/3-total required torque.Check for trash in block bolt holes-Cover engine vitals and blow out holes-Lightly oil threads of head bolt for a true torque reading-If you don't have acess to a good qualiy torque wrench rent one.A crows foot is for hard to acess bolts not applicable to use as a torque fixture Barney and Pman8 will give you the real deal.

Thanks ITW, I did scrap the crows foot and removed the bolt properly. I also have another problem now that the head is off....everything looked fine to my rookie eye ball, so I decided to bring the head to an high performance engine shop for some expert advice. I read the other day in "Engine Masters" magazine the importance of pairing up ypur valve spring with the cam shaft. And since their were no specs on this engine I have no idea what sort of cam I have, other than being told by the previous owner that the biggest cam for the engine was installed.
So the engine shop was able to make an educated guess as to the type of cam I may have, and if they are correct the engine builder installed miss-matched springs. So I now have to do one of 2 thigs. Either pull the cam to know for sure, or get a dial guage and see if I can figure out what the lift is by measuring at the lifter from the bottom of the stroke to the top. The Rocker arms had also been installed backwards, and I suspect that this caused the valve guides to be prematurely worn (about double than what they should be). LOL, I could go on some more about the sloppy work I am seeing, but will save my ranting for another time.
So what to do??

If it was mine I would replace the cam, lifters and springs because if they put the wrong springs on it the cam could be prematurely worn or damaged.
