I followed the sheet that Lunati sent with the cam. Outside of checking to make sure everything is at zero lash again it seems like their isn't much I can do. I will keep an eye on the noise to see if it comes back again. Thanks again for the help and your time.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I knew I should have pulled the motor when I changed the cam. I could have inspected the throwout at that time. BOHICA - Bend over here it comes again
Thanks.

Pontiacman8 one more question, for now
I want to check the vacuum and oil pressure. Where would be the correct places to hook these gauges up? When checking the vacuum do I disconnect the hose from the distributor to the carb?.
As always, thank you

Oil pressure will be best check at the filter adapter there is a plug there remove it and plug in the gauge.
No you will hook the vacuum gauge to manifold vacuum which will be a port that has vacuum at idle like the port that runs to the modulater valve if it has a auto trans. or any port that has vac. at idle those port are usually on the bottom of the carb. on the throttle plate assembly place your finger over the port if you fell steady vacuum then you found the manifold vacuum.

I checked the vacuum and I'm getting about 11 Hg. I adjusted the timing from 6 BTDC to 8 and the vacuum increased but it is not steady. The gauge is bouncing between 13 to 15 HG. The engine idle went from 750 to 950 with the timing increase. The only way I can increase vacuum is to increase the timing. Is this correct with the Lunati cam?
Oil pressure will be checked tomorrow.

I would set the timing around 12-14 degrees.
What type of carb. do you have on the engine?

I'm assuming you are taking about 12-14 degrees BTDC?

Is their any way to check the timing accurately since my timing chain cover only has +6 to -4 markings?
I am also assuming the hose from the dist to the carb is off and plugged through out the process?

Ya if you have a dial back timing light that will tell you were the timing is at.

Bstrange,  yeah, a digital timing light with a big red read out is really handy when you are advancing the timing past the marks. It will tell you exactly where your at, plus you won't have to slice off your head trying to see the marks.

Also, when I installed a bigger cam in my 400 a while back, I too was worried about the weird clicking. My local Pontiac guru said it's just breaking in and to ignore it till is goes away. It made sense at the time and did fade away, runs great.

Also, when I disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor, I just push the end of the hose onto the hold down screw on the air cleaner.
