Your 66 326 doesn't need any trick cooling system, just a fresh factory sized 2 or 3 core rad should be more than adequate for most driving. If the car has A/C you may need slightly more cooling. Does it have a shroud? What style of fan? What thermostat do you run? Please don't say "none", that doesn't work. Even in our race car we run a gutted thermostat so the stat acts as a flow restrictor to keep the coolant presurized in the block and heads. This gives the coolant time to absorb heat from the iron. Until you start extensively modifying the engine for more power, a stock system in good condition will work great. Look at it this way, Pontiac wouldn't have sold the car with an inadequate cooling system, they would have been inundated with warranty claims. Don't buy into the old line that "Pontiacs all run hot", that usually comes from Chevy guys with no clue how to work on a real engine. Steve

Barney is dead on-also- A shroud is necessary to allow the fan to pull more air thru the rad You can acheive sucess if you use an electric fan 18" 2000-3200 cfm that is thermostatically controlled (electric relay kit) I use straight bottled water in the summer with 2 bottles of water wetter which is a lubricant and does help cooling also-50/50 antifreeze in winter.

yep, barney is right on, I have a well built pontiac 350 and still running the 3row heavy duty cool stock replacement radiator, bolt on fan don't care much for the clutch type and running a 70/30 antifreeze water mixture and no over heating problems. Barney is a 100% right about the old saying that pontiac engine always run hot only chevy guys say that and should not be touching a pontiac engine in the first place. I have built plenty of both engines and pontiac rules.

Have you tried a 160 T-stat in place of the 180. Also have you ever pulled the drain plugs on the side of the block to see if the block might be plugged up.

alot of good advice but whats missing?take off the water pump there are rubber seals on the sleeve that goes thru the timing cover by now they are rotten or gone by now.You must use a shroud or electric puller fan mounts on the inside of engine compartment.the push type can actually reduce air flow.cost almost nothing at a boneyard make sure you grab the thermastat screws into a water jacket in block or intake and relay as they draw a lot of current. Its not an smog motor so 160 or 180 therm is fine.I drill a one eigth hole in mine to release any air bubbles.I use a 4 core desert cooler from ames performance engineering dont forget the bracket when ordering.water only on the street only if you like to clog water passages or flushing alot.

Also make sure that the sheet metal plate that goes between the water pump and timing cover is not rusted out.
