I have a 100 amp 1 wire alternator/internal regulator. Meter on my neg terminal on battery and pos on alternator terminal I'm getting 14 volts. Dumb question but what should I be getting FROM wiring that gets clipped into alternator if anything? Right now I'm getting 0. Can these be cut and removed from equation since it's a internal regulator? Thanks.
Also...it's a new Powermaster alternator from Summit. I've heard that if the positive cable is disconnected when running this alternator, or some other newer ones, the car will shut down. Is this true or do I have a problem somewhere in system. Thanks.

never ever pull a battery cable off with the engine running...
why.... the alternator cannot respond instantly... if its charging.. and pushing electrons into the battery.... when you pull the cable off.. the electrons have no place to go... so they build up... this build up is voltage...
without the battery putting a load on the alternator... when the voltage builds up for that instant... it can go over 100 volts.. this will damage the electronics in the internal voltage regulator... it may damage the ignition modules.. it may damage any electonics in the car...
who ever started the pull the cable off to see if the alternator works.. was out to change the alternator..
charging voltages..
14.06 to 14.6 volts is a good ...
