Just a word of caution. Don't race that car until you go through the whole frame and suspension and bring it back to standards. I would also go through all the brake lines and fuel lines as well. If the frame is that rusted chances are the lines are too.

The right side torque box on my 65 was swiss cheese when I took it off the frame too. But with some 3/16 flat bar I was able to cut and weld new metal in and over lap the existing metal, you can't see it today. I sat the frame up level on stands and took my time welding it up to make sure I wasn't putting a twist in it. If the frame rail is the problem I would look for a replacement but these can be repaired too. The body must be pretty rusty also. Good luck and fun welding it all back together.

U.S. ARMY very cool, thank you for your service.I know you asked about racing it awhile back and I'd hate to see you get hurt.I have 4years active army and 17 reserve and I used my reserve checks to buy parts for my car. Many fond memories and some not so good from my sevice years. If you are still active be careful out there and thanks again.

I don't know where you are located, I'll look up your profle. Here in eastern Washington state we have some very good frames around for these cars if they were native to the area and some are. My local guy here ships them 10 or 12 at a time to the midwest. If you are close by I will get you in contact with him.
