I am in the process of buying a '71 grand prix w/455 and auto trans. I want to do some performance upgrades. Whats a good head and cam combo for this engine? The bottom end is going to stay stock. This is going to be a street car more then anything. Maybe visit the local track from time to time. It already has a upgraded intake and carb. I believe they are edelbrock.Im trying to make it a NASTY little sleeper. It already has tons of torq. But more is better! Any help would be appreciated.

The Crower 60919 makes a very nice street cam in a 455. My 462 has 9.3 compression with 6X8 heads... Nice mellow lope at idle and good low end torque..

Don't forget the simple things. Tall and wide air cleaner, 750-800 cfm carb, Edelbrock intake manifold - IN, and long tube headers, complete 2.5" exhaust system with a balance pipe - OUT. And in between use some high compression, large valve heads, unless the engine alreadty has those. Use a tall rear gear 3.5, or 3.73 and some wide, aggressive tread tires to hook up. You can also install a shift kit in the trans for quick, crisp, high rpm upshifts. Run high octane fuel with high compression heads and you can switch to electronic ignition and utilize low resistance plug wires for a bigger, more effective spark.
1969 GTO, YS code 400, 350hp/445 ft lbs of torque (stock specs), LT headers, H-pipe, 750 Holley 4160, Ignitor II ignition. Complete Painless wiring.
