Cam bearing problem

Hello. i recently had cam bearings put in my 455 and noticed (once I got home, of course) that three of the 5 bearings aren't lined up exactly with the oil hole. They are about 1/4 covered by the block, that is, they weren't lined up exactly when he installed them. My question is has anyone ever filed a bearing(or chamfered a bearing hole)? I was thinking of filing the hole a bit wider on these three bearings. Will this cause bearing material to eventually flake away over time? The machine shop said not to worry about it (of course they said that, since the bearings get destroyed once you take them out again), and I should have known better than to take it there. Thanks, Jeff

No I do not recommend filing the bearings you will end up damaging them not a good idea.

Get another set and have someone install them who will take better care of the job. Might be a good idea to have any other work they did double checked.

I honestly can't believe they would do that. I would tell them you want your money back. It's companies like that, that take the fun out of the hobby. What if you hadn't caught it? You take something to a professional to have it DONE RIGHT.

Yes, I know, my own fault for not checking them over; thanks for the comments. Jeff

Man, Hell no! Make them make it right. Don't go in there with an attitude but right is right and wrong is wrong. If they didn't install them correctly, then they should stand behind their work and make it right. I have been screwed before and just let it go because I thought I would get no where and it was fruitless. Go state your' case and don't let your emotions come into play! (I'm saying that for me
basicly, because I have to have a long talk with myself when dealing with such manners as this). I hate to hear that because that is not right and alot of work to repair it. I,m sure you can work something out. Good Luck. Dave
