Does anyone know what the difference between head casting numbers that have the same specs would be?
For example 1970 Ram Air casting #s 12 & 13. Both were used on 400 motors, both have 2.11/1.77 valves and both have 72 CC combustion chambers. What difference was of enough significance that caused Pontiac to assign two different casting numbers?
I have asked a few Pontiac guys I know that very question and have not received a definitive answer. In other words...nobody I know really knows why.
I'd really love to know. Hope someone can shed some light on this for me and everyone that reads these posts.
Thanks Much...

The #12 heads were for manual transmission cars and the #13 heads were for automatic transmission cars.
