That is one sick looking lifter, it almost looks rusted or like some kind of cancer.
I've never seen one look like that. Could the block be cracked and leaking water all over everything? Was the engine rebuilt recently? How old are those lifters?

The lifters were suppose to be Lunati lifters for a Pontiac. The company that provided these lifters have made a serious mistake. These aren't Lunati's and they aren't for a Pontiac.

Wow. Well hopefully when the right ones are installed you'll be alright. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the cam doesn't look screwed up. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the correct lifters will do the trick. (pre-oil them good). It's amazing how many companies don't understand that Pontiac is not spelled Chevrolet.
Good luck and keep us informed.

Inspect the new lifters and compare the location of the oil grove. Almost every lifter company is now providing Chevy lifters as Pontiac's. The Chevy groove is in the wrong position and will come out of the board, get caught and can tear the block apart.

Make sure you do a proper cam break in with the new lifters. Do not use synthetic oil until you have 100 miles on the lifters. You must add a zinc additive to the oil. Modern oils no longer have zinc or phosphorus in them, so the do not provide the lubrication required for the extreme friction of flat hydraulic or solid lifters. Almost no one knows this, and everyone is tacking out lifters or wearing off lobes.

Within 1 min of start up, adjust the carb to idle at 2500rpm for 20min. If the car starts to overheat then shut it down for an hour and restart to complete the 20 min. After that you will be safe to drive.
