crankcase vent question

I got a 67 GTO 400 and the pcv valve in the valley pan is clicking (rapidly opening and closing) while at idle. I pulled the valve covers to check the rockers and push rods since I just installed a cam and lifter and I get light smoke from the passenger side heads only, none on the drivers side. Push rods and rockers look o.k.(push rods spinning and no chartering). I get a steady vacuum at 15 in. hg.

Any ideas on the the clicking and smoke?
Are they related?

Thanks

how are you measuring the vacuum... with a hand held fuel pump vacuum tester gauge on a large hose right to the intake..

or the dash mounted gauge with a long tiny vacuum line????   most dash gauges are also damped.. to prevent needle wagging.. which would wear them out in a few weeks..

have you done a compression test...  ???

made sure that there are not any cross firing spark plug wires.. or in the cap.???

take a look at this item from HF  Itemnumber=93547

it really sounds like at least one of your valve adjustment is too tight..

pull the spark plug wires one at a time from the distributer cap... when the ticking stops.. you know which one is causing the problem..

a compression test will also show this problem..

do you have adjustable rocker arms on your motor.. or the non adjustable rockers arms..

you might invest in a set of poly locks.. so you can fine tune the adjustment.. they make special versions for pontiac motors..    be sure to use a 5/16 open wrench to measure the threads of the rocker arm studs threaded area...  if a 5/16 fits.. then you have the reduced thread size..   if a 3/8 open end wrench fits tight.. then you have 3/8 threads..

waynep7122 thanks for the reply.
I am measuring the vacuum with a hand held fuel pump vacuum tester gauge. I disconnected the hose going from the base of the carb to the power brake booster and then plug in my gauge to the carb.

I checked the spark plug wires for the correct order and they are right. I am not sure what HF  Item number=93547 is?

I have not done a compression test yet but that's next and I do have adjustable rocker arms (5/8 style).

I will pull a compression test on all cylinders and get back to you.

Thanks again.
