I want to thank everyone who help on my cam install with my 67 gto, I greatly appreciate it. I have a chance to buy a 455 that came out of a 73 T/A for about 200 bucks. I have not seen the motor in person, it's about 3 hours away. The block casting is #485428, engine code YC (1973 Trans Am 455 automatic). The heads are 4X, date codes I 15 2 and I 20 2. The intake and valley pan are included but no carb. The buyer states that it has a spun rod bearing. I plan on doing a complete rebuild bottom to top. My question, do you guess think its a good price and could I stick in my 67 gto with a 4 speed? Thanks

Yes I think $200 is a good price as long as it is rebuildable. I'm pretty sure you will need different motor mounts and/or mount brackets.

Ya, I was reading some post that I will need some mounts. It is a tough call without being able to see it. Worse case senerio I'm out 200 bucks, sounds like a deal. Thanks as always.

I got my best 455 from a junk yard. Take it apart and have a trusted machine shop magnaflux the block and the heads for cracks.

Hopefully I'm picking up the motor this weekend if all goes well. I am going to be doing a complete rebuild top to bottom (in the area of 500 hp/550 torque). Depending on the block I will be taking it .30 maybe .60 over. My father-in-law works at DART so he will be doing all the machine work. (i.e heads and block). I'll soon be looking for some heads that I can run on pump gas to get me to the hp/torque I'm looking for any ideas?
