i know this is a poncho site ,but i have a true love of detroit works of art those masterpieces of the auto companies are beautiful i like them all but prefer gm and of that im faithful to pontiac and oldsmobile in that order,but im having a performance problem with my dads 65 thunderbird with a 390 and fmx trans we rebuilt the engine to stock except a 600 holley and a cam that is 428 cj replacement the car has 300 gears the car is a dog with the torque and hp this engine is supposed to have i think a vw mini bus would out perform it anybody have any ideas besides setting it on fire can use any advice thanks

All internal combustion engines operate basically the same so I'll try to help you out. What are the actual cam specs of the 428 Cj cam? What timing settings are you using? Any idea what position the cam was installed at? 3.00 gears aren't very steep with a heavy car like that, but you should have decent torque to get it rolling. Let me know what you can about the questions I asked and we'll work from there. Steve
