I have just picked up a 79 TA missing a motor and transmission. My goal for this car is to take on the power tour next year, and to take to the strip and race it, I know with a 408 inch Pontiac in a 3800 lb car I will not be turning 30 mpg, nor will I be able to run it in the 11's on the track, but my intent is to build a fun car that I can enjoy the cruise in style.
I will list what I have to work with so far and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.
I have a 1970 400 with #13 heads ready to put together. The motor is .040 over running a stock crank and rods. The rods have had ARP studs installed. The heads are mildly ported. The pistons are dished speed pro's. They are dished to bump back the compression ratio to 9.5. I will be running headers into true duals 2.5" pipes to flow masters and then to TA turn outs. As far as a transmission I have a 6 speed LT1 transmission I would like to ut in place of the 4 speed. As far as gears, my plan is for 3:73 gears on an Eaton Tru Trak in the stock housing. The transmission Ratios are as follows: 2.97:1, 2.07:1, 1.43:1, 1.00:1, 0.80:1, 0.62:1
Given the above list can you guys recommend a cam, intake and carb for my build?

If the short block is not assembled yet I would use forged rods. How much porting was done to heads casting flash removed or more. A 3" exhaust system would probably be better.

At this point the casting flash has been removed on the heads. The exhaust is an easy change, it will not go into the car till it is put together. The short block has been assembled but if the forged rods will be best it can be torn back down. I do not plan to turn this thing over 5500 rpm so I didnt purchase the aftermarket rods.

The stock rods with arp bolts should be fine up to 5500RPM but getting a good set of forged rods is always cheap insurance I use the eagle H-beam rods in my 350 Pontiac that is in my regal and it was money well spent. Sense the heads have had port work done I would go with one of these cams Lunati P#60903LK or P# LUN-00071LK. A edelbrock performer RPM intake and a 750CFM Holley carburetor.
