1979 TA Shaker Question

I have found a Pontiac 455 to drop into my 79TA. Will the air cleaner assembly be at the same height? (Had a 403) Did the Olds 403's, Pontiac 400's and 455's all use the same assembly? Just want to be sure the shaker scoop is still going to fit.
Thanks from a new forum member and first time poster.

In your case with a 403, no.If you can find a donor shaker from a 400 it should. If you plan on other modifications like a diferent carb or intake it would probably not work either. If you want a plce to start looking aftermarket try blockersperformance.com. I have alot of aftermarket parts on my 455 in a 79 TA. I called them up on the number in their web site and they hooked me up with a kit that not only fit but is functional as well.

The shaker it'self is not the problem, it's the metal thing that it's connected to that fits over the air cleaner. The 403 and 455 sit in the engine compartment a little differently and makes the shaker scoop not line up right. If you don't have any luck finding the aftermarket kit you can always remove the scoop from it's metal base and reposition it - that's what I had to do. Creepyracings' suggestion would probably be a better fix since it's already done right without having to mess with it - especially if it's functional. I'll be checking out the site too. thanks CR

If you look at my pics in the readers rides section one of them shows how the Blockers kit really cleaned up the engine compartment. The kit had a new base unit without the snorkle sticking out. it came with a insert that epoxyed into the top of the shaker so a k&n filter can be added. It also requires cutting the intake hole from the scoop to make it functional. everything including the instructions came with the kit. I was able to install it in about a hour using simple hand tools.

Hey CR, just now saw your post - my computer crashed. Looks like a cool kit. I've cut out several hood scoops with a drimmal, it works really good if taken slow. A little sandpaper and it looks like an open factory scoop. peace, Brazil
